Heart-Shaped Pizza: The Perfect Recipe for Love and Flavor

Heart-shaped pizza topped with pepperoni and fresh basil leaves on a marble surface.

Valentine’s Day is all about showing love, and what better way than with a homemade heart shaped pizza? Certainly it’s possible to order one for yourself, but making one yourself? That’s actual romance.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (around 110°F)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar

For the Sauce:

  • 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For the Toppings:

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Your favorite toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, whatever you love)

Instructions

1. Make the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it gets foamy (this means the yeast is working).
  2. Using a bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add also the yeast mixture and olive oil, then stir until it forms a dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place it in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.

2. Shape the Dough into a Heart

Now, here’s where the magic happens.

  1. Roll out your dough into a large circle, about 12 inches wide.
    • To get the heart shape:Pinch the bottom of the circle to form a point.
    • Use your fingers to create an indent at the top center to form the heart’s curves.
    • Adjust as needed—it doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s homemade, and that’s the charm!

3. Add the Sauce & Toppings

  1. Spread your sauce evenly, leaving a little border around the edges.
  2. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese generously.
  3. Add your toppings—get creative!
  4. If you want, brush the crust with a little olive oil and sprinkle some garlic powder for extra flavor.

4. Bake to Perfection

  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (you want it hot!).
  2. Transfer the pizza onto a baking sheet or, even better, a pizza stone.
  3. Bake until the crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbly, for 12-15 minutes.

Once out of the oven, let it sit for a couple of minutes before slicing—trust me, it’s worth the wait.

Notes

  • Crank Up the Heat – Bake at 475°F for a crispy crust.
  • Brush the Crust – Olive oil + garlic powder = golden, flavorful edges.
  • Shape Smart – Pinch the bottom, indent the top—adjust as needed!
  • Less is More – Too much sauce or cheese = soggy pizza.
  • Use a Hot Surface – Preheat a baking sheet or use a pizza stone.
  • Make It Special – Pair with wine, salad, or chocolate for a full Valentine’s vibe.
