Brisket Sandwich: A Food Lover’s Dream

A close-up of a brisket sandwich with tender brisket, coleslaw, and a soft bun.

A brisket sandwich is essentially a barbecue masterpiece stuffed between two slices of bread. At its core, you’ve got brisket, a cut of beef known for its rich, meaty flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture when cooked low and slow. Moreover, a touch of sauce, toppings, and bread completes the magic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs of brisket (flat cut or whole packer)
  • Your favorite BBQ rub (store-bought or homemade)
  • Wood chips for smoking (hickory, oak, or mesquite)
  • Brioche buns or your preferred bread
  • BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Toppings of your choice (slaw, pickles, onions)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brisket: Rub the seasoning all over the brisket and let it marinate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for deeper flavor.
  2. Smoke It: Preheat your smoker to 225°F. Place the brisket fat-side up on the smoker grate. Smoke until the internal temperature hits 195°F–205°F. This can take 10–12 hours, so plan ahead!
  3. Rest the Meat: Wrap the brisket in foil and let it rest for 30 minutes to an hour.
  4. Slice It Right: Slice the brisket against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  5. Assemble the Sandwich: Toast your bread, layer on the brisket, drizzle with BBQ sauce, and pile on your toppings. Serve immediately.

Notes

  1. Don’t Skip the Rest: Letting your brisket rest after cooking is crucial. It gives the juices time to redistribute, making the meat tender and juicy.
  2. Toast the Bread: A quick toast keeps the bread from getting soggy and adds a nice crunch.
  3. Layer Smartly: Put the sauce on the bottom bun to prevent it from soaking into the bread too much. Add toppings in layers for even distribution.
