The Best Guacamole Recipe: Creamy, Zesty & Absolutely Addictive

A bowl of chunky guacamole with a tortilla chip dipped in, surrounded by additional chips on a wooden platter.

I have a confession—I could eat guacamole every single day and never get bored. It’s the one thing I make for every party, game night, or random Tuesday when I just need a good snack.

Ingredients

  • Ripe Avocados – The star of the show. Go for Haas avocados—they’re creamy and flavorful.
  • Red Onion – Adds a little bite without overpowering.
  • Roma Tomatoes – Juicy but not too watery, perfect for guac.
  • Cilantro – Love it or hate it, a fresh cilantro gives that authentic touch.
  • Garlic (Optional but Recommended)Because a little garlic makes everything better.
  • Jalapeño or Serrano Pepper – For a little kick. Skip it if you prefer mild.
  • Lime Juice – Keeps the avocado from browning and gives it that zesty pop.
  • Salt – Brings out all the flavors.

Instructions

1. Pick the Right Avocados

This is crucial. You want ripe but not overripe avocados. They should be dark green, slightly soft when squeezed, but not mushy. If it feels like a stress ball, toss it.

2. Mash to Perfection

Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, then scoop the flesh into a bowl. Mash it with a fork until you get your preferred consistency—chunky, smooth, or somewhere in between.

3. Add the Flavor Bombs

Mix in the diced onion, tomatoes, cilantro, minced garlic, and jalapeño.

4. Lime & Salt = Game Changer

Squeeze in that fresh lime juice and sprinkle in the salt. Taste as you go—you don’t want it too salty or too tart.

5. Mix & Serve

Stir everything together, grab a chip, and taste test immediately. You know, for quality control.

Notes

Use a Molcajete – If you have a mortar and pestle, use it! Grinding the ingredients together releases even more flavor.

Don’t Skip the Lime – It keeps your guac fresh and prevents browning.

Adjust the Heat – Want it mild? Skip the jalapeño. Love spice? Add extra.

Seed the Tomatoes – Too much liquid can make guac watery, so remove the seeds first.

Let It Rest – Letting guac sit for 10 minutes before serving lets the flavors blend beautifully.
