Golden apple puff pastries with powdered sugar on top, displayed on a white plate, with more pastries on a cooling rack in the background.

This recipe is the perfect combination of simple ingredients and big flavors—plus, it’s great for anyone who wants to feel like a pro baker without the stress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of frozen puff pastry (thawed)
  • 3 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

1. Prep Your Ingredients

First, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Pull out your puff pastry to let it thaw if you haven’t already.

Peel, core, and slice your apples into thin wedges. Toss them in a bowl with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. This mix gives the apples that cozy, warm flavor everyone loves.

2. Roll Out the Puff Pastry

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry just a bit to smooth it out. Cut it into rectangles—about 4×6 inches works great. You can go smaller if you want bite-sized pieces!

3. Assemble the Pastries

Place a few apple slices in the center of each rectangle. Fold the pastry over, pinching the edges with a fork to seal them. (Think of it like a mini apple pie!)

If you want something fancier, try making lattice tops by cutting thin strips of pastry and weaving them over the apples.

4. Brush and Bake

Brush each pastry with beaten egg for that golden, shiny finish. Pop them onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 18–20 minutes or until puffed and golden.

5. Add the Finishing Touch

Once they’ve cooled a bit, dust the pastries with powdered sugar. Bonus points if you drizzle a little caramel sauce on top.

Notes

  • Keep It Cold: Warm puff pastry can get sticky and lose its flakiness. Keep it chilled until you’re ready to use it.
  • Don’t Overload: Less is more when it comes to filling. Too many apples can make the pastry soggy.
  • Experiment with Spices: Add a pinch of ginger or cardamom for a twist.
